Debugging with Eclipse

As you go through the page of this lab, you will collect screenshots. Look for ahot chili pepperto tell you where to do this. As you collect the screenshots place them into a lab document (use Word) that you will submit after completing the lab. Make sure to label/caption the screenshots as you go along.

To take a screenshot if you are working on a Mac, there are two basic approaches using the Mac's built-in screen capture capability:

  1. Creating screen-shot files:
    1. Hold down the shift key and the “command” key (next to the space bar, with a "4-leaf clover" icon), then press the ‘4’ key.  The cursor will change to a “crosshairs” icon.  Click and drag a rectangle that covers the region you want to take a picture of. You may hear a clicking noise (which is supposed to simulate a camera shutter’s sound).
    2. If you look in the Finder, on the Desktop, you should now see a file named “Picture 1.png” or some such.  Start Microsoft Word and create a new (empty) document.  At the top of the document put your name and then a blank line.   In the Insert menu, select “Picture” and “From File”.  Locate the .png file you just created and insert it into your Word document.  Alternatively, you can "click and drag" the .png file into your Word document.
  2. Using only cut and paste:
    1. Alternatively, you can also hold down the control key (so you'll simultaneously be holding the shift, control and command keys while hitting the '4'). This will cause the image to go into the clipboard, rather than creating a file on the Desktop. Now you can just go to your Word document and paste. The selected image should appear in the document.

In Word, select the image.  This should cause 8 small squares to appear around the image.  Click and drag on the bottom right corner of the image to shrink it so that it is about 4 inches in width. Place a label below the image.  Save your document, as usual.

To take a screenshot if you are working in Windows:

Use the PrintScreen button on your keyboard. This will create a file, much like on the Mac. Again, you'll want to insert the image into a Word document, possibly resizing the image.

The Lab Work, Finally!

The lab is described in the following link. When you are done, submit your lab document to the dropbox for this assignment.
